Existentialism
Existentialism is a term in Philosophy. This term stands for something that exists and active rather than passive. The literal meaning of this word is ‘related to existence’. It is related to the existence of man and his place and function in this world. Søren Kierkegaard is considered the first existentialist philosopher, it became popular during World War II After Søren Kierkegaard existential idea was expanded at the beginning of the 20th century. By Heidegger and Jaspers, they were German Philosopher. These philosophers of existentialist could either be a religious moralist, believer or atheist. Their ideas of existentialism influenced a large number of European philosophers such as Berdyaev, J. d. Gautier and B. Fondane
This approach rejects the idea that is given by this universe or this society that how humans should live their life. In simple words, this philosophy talks about the meaning of life through free will.
It is believed that people are searching for their purpose and meaning in this life. Why are they here? What do they want to be in their life? Such questions are related to existentialism. The idea of existentialism came when society was in a deep sense of sorrow. Means it was the time of World War II. Everyone was thinking about the terror and horror situation of this war. The questions were rising such as why are people dying? For what cause?
