When The American Romantics were only thinking about democracy and freedom, and the idea of freedom and democracy inspired Americans to do the American Revolution and after that, this nation got independence from Britain back in 1776. American Romanticism was based more on fiction than in poetry, 

Main Characteristic Of American Romanticism

Novel;- Novel was the main form of Literature of that time, but in British Romanticism, The Major  Romantic writers were poets such as William Wordsworth, Percy Bysshe Shelley, and George Byron. on the other hand in American Romanticism has also great writer such as Walt Whitman, and the Novelist like Herman Melville and Nathaniel Hawthorne. So Novel distinguishes American Romanticism from British Romanticism, it became the American Romantic movement.

The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne and  Moby-Dick by Melville is a good example of American Romanticism Novels.
